PROHIBITION in the 1920's

PROPAGANDA: A TOOL TO SUPPORT/GO AGAINST PROHIBITION

The advertising of the supporting of prohibition started around 1918, when political cartoons etc. began booming (“Ohio Dry Federation”). At this time, those against prohibition were probably feeling down in the dumps as the WCTU kept on working at getting acts passed against alcohol.  For instance, the Volstead Act was passed in October of 1920, and it implied that .5 percent or more alcohol in a drink considered being intoxicating.  This got those against prohibition fired up, and they too began to protest just like the WCTU.
Propaganda tools such as political cartoons and advertisements revealed that both sides of the debate tried getting US citizens on their side.
